Apple’s new M2 MacBook Air seeing a ton of demand

Shipping estimates for Apple’s new MacBook Air, powered by the M2 chip, have already slipped to July 18 or later with custom configurations shipping as late as August. Currently, the base model with an 8-core GPU in Space Gray and the base model with a 10-core GPU in Space Gray and Starlight are available for launch day delivery on July 15 in the United States.

The new MacBook Air is powered by the M2 chip which brings more performance and capabilities to the Mac. The chip features an 8-core CPU and a GPU that has up to 10 cores.

Apple also announced another Mac at WWDC, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2, which has been considered out shadowed by the new MacBook Air.  The 13-inch MacBook Pro retains the same old design, display, and speakers as its predecessor. Upgrades include the M2 chip, support for Spatial Audio, and a new 67W USB-C Power Adapter.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro did not see any significant shipping delays as the MacBook Air is currently experiencing. That is likely because it does not offer any major upgrades other than the M2 chip. And, it costs more than the M2 MacBook Air while featuring an outdated design, the same ports, and Touch Bar.

The M2 MacBook Air will also be available to purchase at select retail Apple Store locations starting July 15 but only standard configurations are likely to be available. Pricing for the redesigned MacBook Air starts at $1,199 and $1,099 for education.
