Facebook and Instagram have rolled out exclusive features to broadcast and share moments from Rio Olympics 2016. Read on to find out more.
Special customization features for the Opening ceremony
To increase the anticipation and exciting of the events, Facebook has introduced promotional customization features:
- Users will be able to add country based temporary frames to their profile pictures.
- From Wednesday onwards, country flag masks will be available to add to photos and videos via MSQRD app.
- A special greeting will appear in Users’ News Feeds, which will lead them to a page with Olympic content such as conversations, live videos, events and more.
Live videos and Notifications
For users around the globe, Facebook will become a platform to enjoy daily events and celebrations happening in real-time via live feeds and notifications broadcasted by a social command center in Rio, Brazil.
Facebook, in collaboration with NBC, will broadcast live videos from the games. The highlights of Olympics events including interviews will be made available for USA audience only. During Rio 2016, Facebook users will receive notifications of the games, results, venues and more, whenever they open the app.
NBCUniversal announced the coverage of Rio 2016 via television broadcast and online live streaming in June for the USA. The broadcasting corporation will make Rio 2016 coverage available across 11 channels and networks such as Bravo, NBC Sports, NBC and more, and on NBC Sports App for smartphones and tablets.
Users can also be virtually present at the games by viewing the live videos of their friends or celebrities attending the events.
Daily highlights on Instagram
Instagram will join in the Olympics spirits as well. Users will be able to watch daily highlights of the events at the end of the day in two minutes long slow-motion videos. NBC Olympic commentators will be available on @Instagram account and will facilitate highlights of events via search and explore video channels.
