Facebook Messenger app for iOS has received a bunch of new features including chat themes, a quick reply bar, and new QR odes and payment links that let users send and receive money from anyone, whether they use Facebook or not.
Facebook Messenger gets new themes and a quick reply bar
The new themes in Facebook Messenger not only change the colors of the chat bubbles, but they also change the background and have their own sticker packs. Messenger has supported customizations for chat bubble colors for some time, but now the new updates combine the various customizations in themes. Facebook has announced new chat themes to celebrate Olivia Rodrigo’s new album, World Oceans Day, and Fast & Furious 9 movie.
Facebook Messenger also has a new quick reply bar that appears when users tap on a photo or video in the chat transcript. Any reply sent using the quick reply bar shows at the bottom of the screen, so users can understand the context of the message without scrolling up and hunting for the original media.
For Messenger users in the US, Facebook has rolled out QR codes and payment links that let them sent or request money using Facebook Pay. Despite the name of the payment service, users do not need to be on Facebook to make the payments. All users need to do is scan the QR code, or share their payment link with others to receive payments. Facebook did not share if and when this feature will roll out to other countries.
