Facer, the popular Android Wear watch face customization app, has made its way to iPhone for Apple Watch users. The app lets users set their Instagram or Tumblr image feeds, along with a few paid wallpapers, as image backgrounds which update after regular intervals on the Apple Watch.
Apple does not allow completely custom watch faces on the Apple Watch so Facer is very restricted with what it can do, when compared to its Android Wear compatible variant. Facer for iOS works with the Photo Album Watch Face on Apple Watch which syncs with the Facer album on iPhone. This lets Facer update the Apple Watch with feeds from Instagram or Tumblr, or by using images from various brands and collections such as Garfield, Popeye, Periodic Table and more. There is also a curated content section with different categories that contains images from Facer’s partners.
The catch to all this is that you have to use the Photo Album watch face on Apple Watch. This particular watch face only shows time and does not allow adding any complications to show more information which is a let down. Apple had introduced this watch face with watchOS 2, and hasn’t changed it at all in watchOS 2.2 but with the upcoming Apple event this month, I hope they introduce more customization in watchOS 3.
Facer is available for free for iPhone, however, it comes with in-app purchases for licensed watch faces which cost $0.99 each. The Tumblr watch face costs $1.99 though. If you are into Apple Watch customization and this fulfils your need, give the free features a try.
