Apple has released new software updates for Final Cut Pro, Motion, Compressor, and iMovie, with new features and including Apple Silicon optimizations, enhanced search, stability improvements, and more.
iMovie is Apple’s free video editing app that is available for all macOS users. Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Compressor are paid apps aimed towards professionals and used for video editing.
Here is a summary of the new features and bug fixes in these updates:
Final Cut Pro 10.5.3
- Create and edit custom column views with the new column editor
- Search for media in the browser using expanded criteria including clip names, markers, and notes
- Sort clips in the browser according to type, including proxy, optimized, and missing media

iMovie 10.2.4
- Import projects created with iMovie for iOS version 2.3
- Use sixteen new solid and textured backgrounds with adjustable colors

Compressor 4.5.3
- Receive notifications for completed, failed, and canceled encoding batches
- Embed audio descriptions when encoding a variety of video file formats including MOV, MP4, M4V, and MXF

Motion 5.5.2
Apple only lists stability improvements for Motion 5.5.2 in its App Store listing, but there are a lot more details in the release notes here. There are no new features in this update, but there are some bug fixes for Macs with Apple Silicon, as well as HDR projects and 3D renders.
If you already have these apps installed on your Mac, simply open Mac App Store and head to the Updates tab to download the new versions.
