Gentler Streak v5.2 adds Home Screen health widgets and expands RPE insights

With its latest update, Gentler Streak, a leading fitness and wellness app for Apple devices, now offers new widgets that put key health metrics front and center on the Home Screen for easy access. Designed for convenience, these widgets offer quick access to vital stats collected from the Apple Watch, allowing users to monitor their well-being without opening the app.

The latest version of the app, 5.2, brings two widget options, offering users a more personalized way to track their health directly from the Home Screen. One widget provides an all-in-one view of multiple health metrics, while the other focuses on a single, user-selected metric. Both widgets draw from the app’s Wellbeing section, which compiles data from the Apple Watch—including sleeping heart rate, heart rate variability, oxygen levels, respiratory rate, and wrist temperature. With color-coded charts that highlight trends and flag irregularities, users can easily monitor their health and identify potential concerns at a glance.

The widgets automatically refresh every morning, syncing with Apple Health data collected overnight. They also update whenever the iPhone app is opened, ensuring real-time insights. Setting up the widgets is simple—users can enter Home Screen editing mode, tap to add a new widget, and choose the desired size and type. While Gentler Streak has prioritized widgets for now, it has chosen not to implement Apple Watch complications for health metrics due to reliability concerns with HealthKit synchronization across devices.

Another key addition in this update is enhanced insights into the Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE), a metric that has been part of Gentler Streak for two years. Since Apple integrated RPE into its workout tracking last September, Gentler Streak has expanded its educational resources, providing guidance on how to properly interpret and use the metric. Users can now access dedicated articles within the Insights tab to better understand how RPE factors into their training.

Gentler Streak remains a go-to app for Apple Watch users looking to balance fitness with recovery, having previously won Apple’s App of the Year for Apple Watch in 2022 and an Apple Design Award in 2024. The app is available for free on the App Store, with premium features accessible via subscription or a lifetime license.
