Google’s “Help me write” feature is now available to enrolled users in the Workspace Labs program on Gmail for Android and iOS.
Google first announced the “Help me write” feature at Google I/O in May for Gmail. The feature uses Google’s advanced machine-learning algorithms to generate a full draft of the email within seconds.
In Gmail, a “Help me write” button will show up in the bottom-right corner
According to a report by 9to5Google, the “Help me write” feature is now rolling out to enrolled users in the Workspace Labs program on both Gmail on Android and iOS. Till now, it was available for desktop users only.
Users enrolled in the Workspace Labs program will see the “Help me Write” option. To use the feature, users simply need to open the Gmail app and start composing a new email. At the bottom of the screen, they will see a new button labeled “Help me write.” When they tap on this button, they will be prompted to enter a brief description of what they want to write about. For example, they could enter “I need to cancel my appointment” or “I’m writing to introduce myself.” Hit on Create, and a full draft will appear.
Once the text is entered in the compose feed, tapping the button again lets users “Refine” the message in a handful of ways: Formalize, Elaborate, Shorten, I’m Feeling Lucky, and Write a draft. This will generate a new response, and users can have that “Replace” what’s already filled in.
The “Help me write” tool can help users:
- Write emails faster and more easily.
- Get help with grammar and punctuation.
- Improve the tone and style of the emails.
- Generate different versions of the same email.
- Get feedback on the writing.
The “Help me write” tool is still in beta, so it is not available to all Gmail users. However, Google says that it plans to make the feature more widely available in the coming months.
