If you think you can’t get enough stalkers thanks to Twitter, FourSquare and Facebook, here’s yet another service by Google that can let your friends and loved ones keep an eye on you. Google Latitude lets you share you location with your friends and even see where they are. This app has been available for Android since a long time but finally it has been released ( after a peek-a-boo release a few days ago ) for iPhone users.
This app is free and uses your GPS to update your location. It uses iOS APIs for location updating in the background when the app isn’t running. You know where to point if you feel your battery is running out too soon after installing Google Latitude.
From the App Store:
With Latitude, you can:
* See your friends on a map – find out who’s nearby and meet up.
* Share your location continuously with whomever you choose – help friends and family stay in touch with you, even when you can’t take out your phone.
* Control your privacy – share only city-level location, hide your location, or turn off background updating at any time.Latitude lets you share your location in the background, even when the app is closed or your device screen is locked. Background updating requires an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 with iOS 4 or above.
Google Latitude will be best used with iPhone 3GS/4 due to their support for multitasking APIs. Just be careful with your privacy settings.
