OpenAI is bringing GPT-6 to everyone who uses ChatGPT, along with a new feature called Intelligent UI that lets the chatbot answer with interactive screens instead of plain text. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users get it today, and Free and Go users follow tomorrow.
The announcement comes a month after OpenAI introduced the first GPT-6 models for paid customers with GPT-6 Astra. Today’s release brings GPT-6 into the Chat tab of ChatGPT, and it changes how answers look on both web and mobile.
Intelligent UI Lets ChatGPT Answer With Buttons, Charts, Maps, and Forms
OpenAI says more than 1.2 billion people use ChatGPT every week. ChatGPT voice already runs on GPT-6 models too, as covered in our report on the ChatGPT voice upgrade.
OpenAI trained GPT-6 to build each response from text, visuals, and interactive elements, and to pick the mix based on the question. A comparison can appear side by side, an explanation can turn into an interactive diagram, and a simple question still gets a simple text answer.
OpenAI’s examples fall into three groups:
- Everyday planning, such as Sunday roast timings shown next to the recipe, or road trip stops on a map with notes on which detours are worth it
- Learning, with interactive explainers for the central limit theorem, the Monty Hall problem, GDP, and drone photography where you can change an input and watch the result move
- Quick tools built on request, including a retirement savings calculator, a dinner bill splitter, and a retro game you can play inside the conversation
The Sunday lamb roast demo shows the difference best. GPT-5.6 Instant answered with a menu, a table of lamb quantities, and a written schedule. GPT-6 Instant answered with photos of each dish, a guest counter that recalculates the shopping list, a copy button for that list, a cooking checklist timed for a 5 PM dinner, and three hosting tips.
Behind the scenes, OpenAI built a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that processes the interface while the model is still writing. That lets the screen appear piece by piece instead of after the full response finishes. OpenAI evaluated the interfaces GPT-6 creates for clarity, usefulness, and completeness during training, and says the model’s design judgment still needs more work.
GPT-6 Instant Starts Web Search Answers 44 Percent Sooner Than GPT-5.6 Instant
ChatGPT can now begin answering while it keeps thinking. Instead of making you wait for the full reasoning process, the model builds its answer across several partial responses, each adding new information without filler.
OpenAI shared a few numbers from its internal testing.
- On everyday agentic tasks, GPT-6 Extra High starts answering in the same time as GPT-5.6 Medium and scores higher than GPT-5.6 Extra High
- On questions that need web search, GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44 percent sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant
- On difficult problems, GPT-6 addressed the key part of the user’s question more often than GPT-5.6
OpenAI also says GPT-6 resists attempts to bypass its safety training better than GPT-5.6 Sol, especially attacks that adapt across several turns. It uses conversation history to spot risks a single prompt would not show, and it is better at saying when it lacks the information or tools to answer. The full results are in the system card.
Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise Get GPT-6 Today While Free and Go Wait One Day
The rollout covers every ChatGPT tier in the Chat tab, with paid plans on a different model than the free ones.
- Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users start today and get GPT-6 Sol
- Free and Go users start tomorrow and get GPT-6 Luna
- Enterprise availability depends on workplace admin settings
This update only applies to the Chat experience. The models behind ChatGPT Work and Codex are not changing, so models like GPT-6.1 Sol stay where they are. GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna first arrived in those two products on September 23 with API prices 50 percent lower than their GPT-5.6 predecessors.
