blackra1n RC3 will be released today for the iPhone 3G and 3GS today and brings hacktivation as a new feature ( check out the change log here) . This is great news for those who had upgraded to 05.11.07 baseband and were waiting for a way to unlock their iPhones! For those who still haven’t jailbroken their iPhone 3G/3GS with OS 3.1.2, here’s a quick guide on how to do that with blackra1n RC3.
- Download iTunes 9 from Apple’s website.
- Upgrade to OS 3.1.2 via iTunes.
- Once your iPhone has upgraded to 3.1.2, download blackra1n. Use Windows XP compatibility mode if you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7 ( if it crashes ).
- Launch the tool, and click the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
- It’ll take some time while your iPhone is jailbroken. After it’s done, it’ll restart.
- You should see the blackra1n icon on your homescreen now. Open it.
- From here, you can install Cydia, which lets you install jailbreak applications. There is an option to install Rock as well, which is a Cydia alternative.
- Congratulations, you have your iPhone OS 3.1.2 jailbreak up and running.

- This guide also applies for jailbreaking iPod Touch. Check this post to see if the jailbreak is tethered or untethered for your iPod Touch model.

This means that you don’t have to re-jailbreak your iPod Touch 3G or iPhone 3GS after every reboot. Update: iPhone OS 3.1.3 has been released for the iPhone and iPod Touch. We’ve got a new guide up on how to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 and iPod Touch 3.1.3 with redsn0w 0.9.4. Don’t upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.3 if you’re using an unlocked iPhone 3G/3Gs or a jailbroken iPod Touch 2G (MC Model)/3G. The redsn0w guide is for iPhone 2G/3G jailbreak and iPod Touch 1G/2G ( non MC Models) only.
Once you reboot it automatically goes into recovery mode and you have to then restore via itunes. Only way blackrain works is to never switch off your ipod as Apple has already fixed the crack. hope this helps

Would This Jail Breaking Work For An IPOD 8GB?
ok, so it seems as though this program is not good. if you restart your ipod, it will not start back up again. in my case, when i try to turn it on, it shows the apple symbol for a bit, and then it shuts back down. so, you have to put your ipod in recovery mode, and the best way to do this is to connect it to your computer, and wait for your ipod to be completely off. then, hold down the sleep/wake button and the home button until the apple logo appears, then you let go of the sleep/wake button while still holding the home button. your ipod should be in recovery mode within a few seconds.
So i did this for my ipod touch and everything worked perfectly, but after installing Cydia i turned off my ipod and then when i went to turn in back on it asked me for my passcode, so i put it in and then it said that it was wrong…. did it change my passsword? is there a default password? or something i can do, cause now i cant use it :(
I have jailbreak my iphone but when i go to the website to download applications, the icon comes up on my itunes but there is no genre on it. when it comes time to sync it with my iphone, there is an error saying it can not load onto my iphone. do i need to change the file for it to recognize the file?

When I download something from cydia it makes me erase everything on my iPod…what’s wrong?
Do you have to connect the iphone to the computer before you begin this process? and do you need to use iTunes for anything during the process?
Need help i got a Ipod Touch 3.1.2, I jailbreak by blackra1n RC3 but everytime I shut off ipod and then connect to computer I’m obliged to reset ipod. And when I try to install Cydia in wifi mode it take so long that give different error like “time out” etc.
How can I manage it?

I have been able to successfully jailbreak using blackra1n and load Cydia and install AppSync and load apps. However, my issue is everytime I turn off and turn on my 8 GB iPod Touch, I get the screen showing a USB cable pointing to iTunes telling me to connect my touch to iTunes. I proceed to run blackra1n again and it jailbreaks the phone again and reboots, and then I am able to normally use my touch. Is there anyway to avoid seeing the screen showing a USB cable pointing to iTunes? If I am not near a computer, and I turn it on and I get that, that the touch is useless. I’ve only been able to use the touch is running blackra1n (RC3 the latest) whenever I do plug it in, and when it is tethered to the computer.

I jailbroken my iPod touch 3g 3.1.2 using RC3 and for some things I have to rebootmy iPod touch when I turn of my iPod and turn it back on it goes to recoery mode Or the image of a cable and iTunes is there anything that I can do to stop this I hear this is called a teether jailbreak
Just wondering. I’m living in West Africa and am having a fully functional yet used iphone 3g 8gb brought to me here. The phone is not jailbroken and I’m as of right now not sure what firmware or baseband the phone is on. When the phone gets to me here, if it is not on the latest firmware and baseband, can I update it via itunes and then use blackra1n/blacksn0w to jailbreak/unlock it? Does the phone need to have the original carrier’s sim card in it to perform this process? Thanks for the help.
have a jailbreaked and unlocked iphone and then i download tom tom , video recorder for iphone 3g 3.1.2an app but it hasnt installled…..helppp
I had a problem, it crashed when I checked the XP compatibility mode. I have Vista, 2G iTouch 3.1.2 and all you have to do is not check the box. Because notice, it says check the box if it crashes. Mine crashed a lot. Hope this helps.
