Recently, Apple seeded iOS 16 beta 5 to developers and beta testers. As the time for the iOS 16 public release in the fall is coming closer, the latest update does not include major changes but has introduced a few attention-worthy minor features like the new ping sound on the Find My app.
Integrated across Apple devices, the Find My app allows users to track the location of their iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, AirPods, and others on a map in real-time even if they are not connected to the internet. The app provides directions to the location of a missing device and if it is nearby, users can play a ping sound to locate it.
In case of loss or theft, they can also put the device in “Lost Mode” to lock the screen and display a notification message. They can also erase the data on the device remotely.
Find My app gets a new modern sound alert in iOS 16 Beta 5
For a while, the ping alert sound had been the same on the Find My app but that is going to change in the upcoming iOS update. iOS 16 beta 5 added a new modern sound alert to the app for users to locate missing devices if they are nearby.
Beta testers can try out the sound by simply opening the Find My app on any Apple device, tapping on the ‘Devices” tab to display the integrated devices, and selecting a device. Then tap on the “Play Sound” option to hear the new ping sound alert.
The latest update also brings a new battery percentage UI element for iPhones with notches, iPhone X, and newer models.
