Apple has released the final version of iOS 16 for all compatible iPhone models. The update has several new features including a customizable lock screen, and improvements to Messages, Focus mode, intelligence features, and more.
What’s new in iOS 16?
iOS 16 is a major update and Apple has shipped massive improvements to apps like Messages, Mail, Maps, Wallet, Health, News, and more. One of the biggest additions to this software update is the inclusion of a customizable lock screen which also shows widgets for quick information. The new lock screen features fonts, colors, wallpapers, photo styles, widgets, and notifications customizations, so users can create one exactly for their taste.
The new lock screen also works with the updated Focus mode so users can switch between them with just a swipe of the screen. Focus filters can also now hide distractions in apps like Calendar, Mails, Messages, Safari, and even third-party apps. Apple has also made it a lot easier to set up and use Focus mode, especially through useful suggestions for apps and widgets.
Messages app now supports message editing, undo sent messages, mark as unread, SharePlay without FaceTime, and more. Mail app now features improved search, undo send, email scheduling, and reminders. Safari now supports pinned tabs, and tab groups can now have their own individual home screens with customizable favorites and wallpapers. Safari also gains support for Passkeys with this update.
Live Text improvements now allow users to pause a video and copy text from it, as well as perform quick actions on text in images and videos, such as flight tracking, translation, currency conversion, and more. Visual Look Up now lets users press and hold on a subject in a photo to copy and paste it elsewhere, effectively performing a real-time Photoshop-like crop without the effort.
Despite the long list of new features, some iOS 16 features have been delayed and will release later this year.
