iOS 16 will introduce major changes across the system but will not feature a new design
In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that iOS 16 will not introduce a new interface for the iPhone but it will include “new ways of interacting and some fresh Apple apps,” but Gurman does not specify what will change.
Gurman has previously outlined his expectations for the next-generation iOS update. As for system-wide features, the update will add improvements to notifications and feature Crash Detection (also coming to watchOS). In addition, iOS 16 is expected to feature improved sleep tracking, new health features catered towards women as well a new medicine management function that will scan pills and remind users to take them.
The new updates which will be available in the Health and Fitness app in iOS 16 are supposed to go hand-in-hand with some “major upgrades” coming to Apple Watch for activity and health tracking.
Apple Music will also get upgrades in the upcoming software update. References to a new Apple Classical app have been spotted in iOS 15.5 beta code with specializations for classical music metadata. Furthermore, Gurman has also reported that iOS 16 betas feature a lot of references to Apple’s upcoming mixed-reality headset, which is expected to be announced later in 2022.
Along with the iOS update, Gurman said that watchOS 9 “will be significant as well.” In a previous report, Gurman revealed that watchOS 9 is expected to bring a refresh to existing watch faces. In addition, Apple is expected to introduce a new Low Power Mode designed to let users use the watch’s apps and features without them using as much battery life.
Similar to Fall Detection, a new Crash Detection feature will also be coming to watchOS will be able to register a car accident by measuring a sudden change in g-force. The update will also include more workout types, detailed metrics for running workouts, and more.
