iOS 17 enables ‘Find My’ for Apple TV Siri Remotes

Apple has rolled out a new firmware update for the second and third-generation Siri Remotes. The firmware update enables a feature that is set to be released with tvOS 17 and iOS 17 and it allows iPhone owners to locate their misplaced Apple TV remote, providing a seamless and practical solution to a common household dilemma.

Apple TV 4K owners can now locate their lost remotes with new iOS 17 feature

With the latest firmware, tvOS 17, and iOS 17 installed, if you happen to lose your Siri Remote, you can now turn to your iPhone to track it down. The Control Center on your iPhone will offer a Find My-like interface to guide you toward your missing remote. As you move in the right direction, the onscreen circle will increase in size, making it easier to pinpoint your remote’s location.

This Find My feature for the Siri Remote is available for both the second and third-generation Siri Remotes. To take advantage of it, you’ll need to ensure your Apple TV is up to date, powered on, and connected to the Siri Remote. Unfortunately, there’s no direct method to force the new firmware update for your Siri Remote.

Before the release of the latest Apple TV 4K, there were rumors swirling about Apple integrating Find My functionality directly into the Siri Remote. While that didn’t come to fruition, the tvOS 17 update essentially delivers the same capability. This feature was previously unavailable as it required a firmware update to function.

This newfound ability to locate your Siri Remote via the Control Center is the result of Apple’s commitment to deeper integration between your iPhone and iPad with the tvOS 17 and iOS 17 updates. This integration not only streamlines the user experience but also solves a real-world problem for Apple TV owners.
