Apple has released the first beta for iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 to developers. The update is available over-the-air for all compatible iPhone and iPadOS models, as well as from the Apple Developer Center.
The update has been released just a couple of days after the company releases iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 to the general public with Priority Notifications, new emojis, Apple Intelligence updates, Apple Vision Pro App, Apple News+, and more.

At the time of writing, we are still downloading and install the updates on our iPhone 16 Pro Max and 11-inch M4 iPad Pro. So far, the updates are quiet hefty, and more than 7.65 GB in size for iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple’s release notes do not mention anything useful but we will update this post as and when we find any noticeable changes.

If you device is already enrolled in Apple’s developer beta software program, you can simply go to Settings > General > Software Update to download and install the new release. Make sure that your device is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network and has at least 50% battery charge.
If somehow you don’t see the update right away, check Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates, and make sure that iOS 18 Developer Beta is selected. Otherwise you will not receive the update.
Apple has also released the first developer beta builds for macOS Sequoia 15.5, visionOS 2.5, tvOS 18.5, and watchOS 11.5.
