Apple is expected to announce the next-generation iPad 10 sometime this month. Ahead of the official announcement, a third-party case for the device was put up for sale at Target.
Reputable third-party accessory maker for Apple devices starts selling iPad 10 cases
Twitter user @roeeban recently shared images of a folio for the upcoming iPad 10. The case has been manufactured by the reputable accessory manufacturer Speck. The fact that Speck, a company that has been selling cases for Apple devices for many years, had a case ready to go for October suggests that the launch date is close.
One of the major differences between this case and cases for last year’s iPad 9 is that it includes a holder for the second-generation Apple Pencil. The 9th-generation iPad is only compatible with Apple Pencil 1.
In related news, accessory maker ESR added a bunch of new cases for the 10th-generation iPad to its Amazon store in Japan in early October. The ESR cases even feature a cutout for the power button, hinting at Touch ID coming to the top button of the iPad. If the Home button is removed from the iPad 10, it could allow the tech giant to significantly reduce the bezels of the display.
Previous reports on the 10th-generation iPad suggest that it will come equipped with the two-year-old A14 Bionic chip, 5G connectivity, and a Lightning port. It has also been removed that the device will not feature a headphone jack, making it the last device to switch to Apple’s singular port system.
As for the external design of the device, leaked schematics from August suggest that it will feature slimmer bezels, flat sides, and a camera bump on the back. The camera bump is expected to be similar to the iPhone X but it will only have one lens along with a flash module. The schematics also show the camera bump protruding from the device, suggesting an upgrade to the camera sensor.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently said that the new iPad Pro models with Apple’s M2 chip are set to arrive “in a matter of days.” Since the 10th-generation iPad is expected to be released alongside the M2 iPad Pro models, it is safe to assume that the launch date is close. In addition, the journalist has said that Apple will announce new iPads via a press release instead of an event this year.
