iPad Pro powered by an M2 chip coming in the fall, possibly without MagSafe

Apple’s refreshed iPad Pro could be announced in the fall, according to reliable leaker @dylandkt. Furthermore, the new model could feature Apple’s next-gen M2 chip, up from the M1 chip powering current models. The device could be launched without MagSafe capabilities.

Leaker suggests M2 iPad Pro will be launching in fall, 2022

It is expected that Apple will update its iPad Pro lineup, featuring the 11-inch iPad Pro and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, sometime in 2022. In a new tweet from a reliable leaker, it seems that the refresh will happen in the second half of 2022, specifically in the fall.

A recent tweet by the leaker states “The M2 iPad Pro is coming in the Fall,” indicating it could be among the wide array of hardware Apple is planning on announcing in that season. It has been rumored that chipmaker TSMC could use a 3nm process for chips designed for the model. In addition to the iPad Pro, a refreshed 14-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air are also rumored to be powered by the M2 chips.

While it was rumored previously rumored that Apple was experimenting with prototypes with larger Apple logos on the back of the iPad Pro models that are made entirely of glass and the glass logo would allow power to transmit through it, enabling MagSafe charging functionality, Dylandkt does not expect the feature to make it in 2022. “I have heard nothing but concerns from multiple sources with regards to its Wireless Charging/MagSafe capabilities,” the leaker writes.

As for the display, it is said the 11-inch model will be equipped with a mini LED-backlit display as used in the 12.9-inch model. TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that Apple will expand mini-LED display tech to the 11-inch iPad Pro in 2022.

The tweet also states “AirPods Pro 2 are also on track for a Fall release,” corroborating what Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported today.
