Apple to launch new iPad Pro with M5 Chip and minor tweaks in 2025

Apple is reportedly gearing up for a series of updates across its iPad lineup, but the iPad Pro models appear to be taking a more conservative route. According to reports, Apple plans to release updated 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models in 2025, focusing primarily on internal upgrades.

These updates are described as “minor changes,” hinting at a spec bump rather than a design overhaul. The expected refresh will likely feature Apple’s next-generation M5 chip, aligning with the company’s pattern of gradually enhancing hardware to support advanced functionalities like Apple Intelligence.

The next iPad Pro models, which are anticipated to launch in late 2025, might follow a similar strategy to the 2024 lineup, which introduced OLED displays and the ultra-thin chassis design. Despite these advancements, the 2024 models reportedly underperformed in terms of sales, possibly due to the limited capabilities of iPadOS when compared to macOS. This gap has left some potential buyers questioning the value of investing in a high-end iPad for professional workflows.

Apple’s focus on minor upgrades in 2025 could be linked to its ongoing efforts to diversify its supply chain. A new report highlights LX Semicon, a South Korean company, vying to supply display driver ICs (DDIs) for the OLED iPad Pro. If approved, this move would reduce Apple’s reliance on Samsung, potentially lowering manufacturing costs. Mass production of components is expected to begin in April or May, suggesting that the new iPad Pro models will debut in the latter half of 2025. However, if LX Semicon fails to meet Apple’s stringent quality requirements, Samsung is likely to retain its position as the primary supplier.

While the iPad Pro is slated for a more incremental upgrade, Apple’s broader iPad lineup is seeing more significant changes. The iPad Air and iPad 11 are expected to launch earlier in 2025, featuring the M3 and A17 Pro chips, respectively. These mid-range and entry-level models are poised to attract a broader audience with competitive performance at more affordable prices. Meanwhile, the iPad mini, which received its last update in 2024, is unlikely to be refreshed until 2026, consistent with its less frequent update cycle.
