New iPhone 12 and Apple Watch ad ‘Haystack’ promotes ping feature for locating a lost iPhone

Users in Apple’s ecosystem know how well its devices are integrated with each other and the new iPhone 12 ad ‘Haystack’ shows off that very integration. In the new promotional ad, a farmer finds his iPhone 12 by a ‘ping’ from his Apple Watch.

iPhone owners with an Apple Watch can easily pair their smartwatch via the Apple Watch app for the two devices to together. In case, a user forgets where he/she kept his/her iPhone, they can simply tap on the ‘ping’ icon in the smartwatch’s control center to play a sound on the misplaced iPhone to locate it. And if the users, tap and hold on to the ping icon, their iPhone will play the sound and flash, it is useful when looking for the mobile in dark.

The feature works the same way for the Apple Watch, users can ping their misplaced smartwatch from their iPhone to find it. The ‘ping’ feature is available across devices, users can even ping their lost device via the Find My app on the web.

With Searching (For Someone Like You)” by Kitty Wells playing in the background, the new one-minute ad, posted on Apple’s YouTube channel, shows a farmer and his dog going home after piling hay in stacks on the field. But the farmer soon remembers that he has forgotten his iPhone 12. Back at the field, he simply swipes up on his Apple Watch to access the Control Center and pings his iPhone to play a sound on the misplaced smartphone.

Indirectly, the company is also flaunting its Bluetooth connectivity. The farmer was able to find his mobile in a very remote rural area.
