After the launch of two 6.1-inch iPhone 12 and 12 Pro models, there are questions about the iPhone 12 battery performance, in particular against older iPhone models. A tech revieweing YouTube channel, Mrwhosetheboss by Aaron tested the battery performance of all iPhone models Apple currently sells and some discontinued ones. He wanted to see which models would break the current battery life record of 8 hours 46 mins.
The announcement event of the new flagship iPhone 12 accentuated the models’ A14B Bionic chip, 5G network support, advanced camera with Dolby Vision support, 4x more durable glass, and other features, but not its battery. For users who are looking to buy a new iPhone or upgrade their current model, here is the battery performance of all available iPhones.
iPhone 12 Battery Drain Test
The battery life comparison video has all the models in the same settings and 100 percent charge to fairly test their performance. Although we know that the new iPhone 12 models have a 10 percent smaller battery, we don’t know its exact size and have an estimated size. The smartphone models used in the test and battery power are as follows:
- The iPhone 12 Pro – 2815mAh
- iPhone 12 – 2815mAHÂ
- iPhone 11 Pro Max – 3969mAH
- iPhone Pro – 3046mAH
- iPhone 11 – 3110mAH
- iPhone XR – 2942mAH
- iPhone SE (2020) – 1821 mAH
iPhone Battery Test Results
- iPhone 11 Pro Max – 8 hours 29 mins
- iPhone 11 Pro- 7 hours 36 mins
- iPhone 12 – 6 hours 41 mins
- The iPhone 12 Pro – 6 hours 35 mins
- iPhone 11 – 5 hours 8 mins
- iPhone XR – 4 hours 31 mins
- iPhone SE (2020) – 3 hours 59 mins
It must be noted that on 5G , the iPhone 12 battery performance will be lower than calculated because 5G consumes more power for faster download and upload speeds. Looking at the test results, it seems like the predecesor iPhone 11 models give much better battery life in comparison to iPhone 12 models. However, iPhone 12 Pro Max is yet to launch and it can be assumed that Apple would ship that model with a bigger battery to support its 6.7-inch large display.
