Just before iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max pre-orders open up, Apple has given early access to different publications to share their early impressions of the new smartphones. These are not full reviews as they will come later.
iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro hands-on impressions
Apple’s largest and smallest iPhones were given the hands-on treatment by some publications such as The Verge, Engadget, CNET, and more. They give a good idea of the size differences between both devices and could help you decide which one to buy.
The Verge
The Verge found the iPhone 12 mini to be smaller than all other smartphones in 2020. The device was a good fit in hands, and iOS 14 looked great on the smaller screen. This is not the only iPhone with a small 5.4-inch display as iPhone SE has a smaller 4.7-inch display. With regards to the larger iPhone 12 Pro Max model, it did not feel too big in hands, despite being obviously larger than its smaller siblings.
Engadget
Engadget created two different hands-on videos for the two devices. They liked the fact that iPhone 12 mini was easy to hold and use with one hand, but found the Pro Max’ 6.7-inch display too big.
CNET
CNET had a similar opinion of the two devices. The mini felt really small and fit well in hands, thanks to its large display with thin bezels. It is just unlike any other phone on the market. The Pro Max is the largest iPhone Apple has ever made, but it was fine to use.
TechCrunch
TechCrunch did not provide a lot of details on the devices but shared their opinion on how the mini’s screen size is actually 2-inches larger than the original iPhone.
It’s amazing how quickly our perceptions of screen sizes have shifted over the years, that a handset sporting a screen two inches larger than the original iPhone is now considered “mini” by a fairly considerable margin. Heck, even the 6-inch Pixel 5 I’ve been using off and on feels pretty small by today’s standards.
The website claimed that the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro’s 6.1-inch screen size seems like the sweet spot for most users, but we are sure many users would disagree. There is a huge market for people who love to use the Pro Max size iPhones, and the mini has also been made to cater to customer demands.
Apple is opening pre-orders today for these two new devices. We expect that the reviews will also come out very soon which should give a good idea of which smartphone to buy, especially with the improvements in the Pro Max model.
