A Chinese Weibo account going by the name “Kang” recently posted alleged information about the launch date for the ‘iPhone 12 Mini’ and ‘iPhone 12 Pro Max’ and the rumored HomePod Mini speaker. It is rumored that these products are set to be announced at Apple’s October 13th event.
Along with the announcement of the upcoming smartphone lineup, it is expected that the Cupertino tech giant will announce several other new products like AirTags, AirPods over-the-ears Headphones, and more at its upcoming event.
iPhone 12 models to ship in November
Kang, a previously extremely reliable source shared the information as part of a recent rundown of Apple’s upcoming event. From the Weibo post (translated):
“The pre-sale date of the iPhone 12 Mini (5.4 inches) is scheduled for November 6/7, and it will be released on November 13/14.
The pre-sale date of the iPhone 12 (6.1 inches) is scheduled for October 16/17 and will be released on October 23/24.
The pre-sale date of the iPhone 12 Pro (6.1 inches) is scheduled for October 16/17 and will be released on October 23/24.
The pre-sale date of the iPhone 12 Pro Max (6.7 inches) is scheduled for November 13/14 and will be released on November 20/21.”
This recent leak reflects previous rumors that Apple would stagger the upcoming iPhone’s release date scheduled over a couple of months. Bloomberg suggests that Apple will stagger the iPhone launches in 2020, while DigiTimes has previously suggested the two 6.1-inch models could come out first in October, with the 6.7 and 5.4-inch models to follow.
The upcoming flagship iPhone lineup will be powered by the A14 Bionic chip for faster performance and reduced power consumption for longer battery life. It will have a new design language with flat edges, smaller notch, and an OLED display.
The higher-end models are speculated to have four-lens camera systems with LiDAR sensor, 120 Hz refresh rate, and more. Recent reports suggest that the 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch models will have sub-60Hz 5G support and high-end models will support more advanced mmWave 5G technology.
The Mini and Pro Max variants are expected to be made available to pre-order on November 13, with deliveries and release the following week, November 20.
HomePod Mini
According to the leak, the official name of the speaker is HomePod Mini, which will be priced at $99. The size of the speaker is said to be 3.3-inches and it is allegedly powered by an S5 processor, which is used in the Apple Watch Series 5 and Apple Watch SE. The HomePod Mini is said to go on sale on November 16-17.
The source “Kang” has a relatively reliable track record, and has accurately predicted several of Apple’s WWDC and September event announcements this year, including the iPhone SE price, the hand-washing feature for Apple Watch, and details of the new iPad Air.
