Just a day before Apple’s ‘Hi, Speed’ October 13 event, rumors have surfaced about the specs of the new iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max models of the upcoming flagship series. Prominent leaker, Max Weinbach recently shared several details regarding the Cupertino tech giant’s upcoming smartphone lineup. According to Weinbach, the high-end models will have faster face authentication, longer battery, and improved camera.
Along with the launch of the upcoming smartphone lineup, it is expected that the Cupertino tech giant will announce other new products like AirTags, over-the-ears headphones called AirPods Studio, and more at its upcoming event.
Leaked iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max Features
Through his Twitter handle, @PineLeaks, Max Weinbach shared that both iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will offer plenty of camera improvements such as better zoom and Night mode than the iPhone 12’s 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch base models
Additionally, it is reported that the Face ID authentication system will be based on a ‘dynamic zoning algorithm’. This feature will improve the performance of Face ID and make it faster than the current Pro and Pro Max models of iPhone 11. As for the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Mini, the notch is expected to be smaller horizontally but somewhat larger vertically to make space for Face ID sensors.
Weinbach also reports that optical and digital zoom capabilities will get a ‘massive boost’ with the iPhone 12 this year:
“Improved digital zoom will be achieved by combining several frames at different zoom levels and stacking them together – an hybrid of cropping and optical zooming. An algorithm based off of Deep Fusion will take care of correct alignment and sharpening. Smart HDR 3 does the rest.”
The leaker claims that the ‘Ultra Wide lens in the three-lens camera system is definitely getting a larger aperture’ this year, improving low light performance overall. Users will also reportedly be able to ‘get closer to objects compared to the current iPhone 11 Ultra-Wide’ for improved macro capabilities.
The report also talks about portrait mode for video recording have been in development, however, it is still not clear if the feature will make this year’s cut. Presumably, the feature might be added in a future iOS 14 update.
Apart from the recent leaks, the series is said to have four models: 5.4-inch iPhone 12 Mini, 6.1-inch iPhone 12, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and 6.7-inch Pro Max. All the models will be powered by Apple’s custom A14 Bionic chip for improved performance and with 5G network support. It is said that the 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch models will have sub-60Hz 5G support and high-end models will support more advanced mmWave 5G technology.
