A new report by SellCell reveals that iPhone 13 retained three times better value than Samsung Galaxy S22 in the first two months of launch. Samsung introduced the Galaxy S22 series on February 9, 2022, and since then, it has depreciated by 46%.
To determine the value depreciation of the handset, SellCell analyzed sales data for iPhone 13, Samsung Galaxy S22, and Google Pixel 6 considering the trade-in value of all models in “good” and “like new” conditions.
Previously, a value depreciation analysis showed that in the first two months since launch, Google Pixel 6 lost 42.6% value while iPhone 13 depreciated by 21.8%. The new report quotes a similar figure for Google Pixel 6 which was released in October 2021.
iPhone 13 holds better value than Samsung S22 and Google Pixel 6 in two months since launch
Samsung Galaxy S22 and Google Pixel 6 are Android flagship models, but both smartphone models do not hold their value better than iPhone 13. In two months since launch:
- iPhone 13 depreciated by 16%.
- Samsung S22 range depreciates by over 47%.
- Google Pixel 6 lost 42% value.
Furthermore, the report states that the Galaxy S22+ 5G 128GB and Pixel 6 Pro (256GB) models had the worst performance with value depreciation of 58% and 47.9%, respectively, in the first two months.
On the other hand, iPhone 13 Pro Max is the best performing model with only a 4.6% depreciation value. With iPhone 13 retaining the best value in the market, Google Pixel 6 series outperforms the S22 series in holding value. The report also states:
As we already knew, the iPhone is champion when it comes to value retention, seemingly dodging the knockout blows to value that initially felled the Galaxy S22 and Pixel 6 ranges. However, with an uptick in value for the Pixel 6, and a plateauing of value for the Galaxy S22, we may well see both flagship smartphone ranges recovering value in much the same way as the iPhone 13 has (again).
