This year, Apple has introduced major camera upgrades across the iPhone 13 series and the base models, 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini and 6.1-inch iPhone 13 are equipped with improved Dual-Pixel auto-focus and sensor-shift stabilization sensor which was exclusively offered in the iPhone 12 Pro Max in 2020.
DXOMark’s camera test of iPhone 13 found that the new base model scores are just as good as last year’s highest-end iPhone 12 Pro Max. Here are the test results.
iPhone 13 delivers a better video recording score than iPhone 12 Pro Max
The primary, Ultra-Wide, and video recording lenses were tested by DXOMark. The iPhone 13 camera scored 138 photo, 55 zoom, and 117 video points. The camera scores of iPhone 12 Pro Max by DXOMark were 138 photo, 68 zoom, and 113 video points.
Furthermore, the test showed that the only difference in iPhone 13 and 13 mini in the screen’s size and the camera results of both base-level models is virtually the same with accurate target exposure, nice color balance, good details, smooth video autofocus, and more. They also have the same lacking like luminance noise, limited detail in medium to long-range zoom, lens flare and ghosting in the video, sharpness issues in video frames, and more. It must also be noted that the new 6.1-inch iPhone model offers cinematic mode which is not available on iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The test shows that consumers who wish to buy a model with a good camera system but have to stick to a budget can go for the latest iPhone 13 or 13 mini models. The camera features of iPhone models are as the following:
