It was repeatedly reported that Apple would drop the 5.4-inch “mini” iPhone with the iPhone 14 lineup. The new lineup was introduced today and it did indeed ditch the “mini” variant in favor of a larger 6.7-inch standard iPhone 14 Plus. However, Apple is still selling the iPhone 13 mini for the time being. The device is now available at a discounted price of $599.
Apple starting to phase out iPhone 13 mini with the introduction of the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus
The iPhone 12 mini has officially been discontinued as it is no longer part of Apple’s iPhone lineup. However, interested customers can still purchase refurbished models from Apple itself in the United States. The device originally retailed for $679 while the refurbished model starts at $439 for the 64GB. It is also available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage configurations.
However, if you are intent on purchasing a brand-new 5.4-inch iPhone, the $599 iPhone 13 mini is likely the best option for you. You can purchase it from apple.com or the Apple Store app.
The iPhone 12 mini was launched in October 2020. The 5.4-inch smartphone features the same features as its bigger counterpart and though there was a lot of excitement surrounding the device when it was announced, its initial sales were slow and they never really picked up.
The lackluster sales of the iPhone 12 mini and even the iPhone 13 mini are attributed to the fact that consumers prefer buying bigger iPhones because of the larger screen and battery like the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro, etc.
Keeping the slow sales of the mini variants in mind, Apple will likely remove the iPhone 13 mini from its offerings by the time the iPhone 15 lineup is launched.
This year’s lineup features four models: 6.1-inch iPhone 14, 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus, 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.
