A Chinese Twitter account @DuanRui shared new images of alleged iPhone 13 dummy models after they were posted on Weibo ( a Chinese social media platform). The new photos confirm previous reports of a smaller notch and a new camera lens layout for base models. Dummies are created based on CAD drawings leaked by supply chain sources.
Unlike iPhone 12 delayed launch in October 2020, Apple is reported to release the next-generation iPhone series in the usual September timeframe. Therefore, news of production commencement by Apple’s suppliers is circulating in the industry: Samsung and LG have started mass production OLED display panels, TSMC is producing A15 chipsets and Foxconn is giving incentive bonuses to ensure new employees meet necessary work hours.
Another iPhone 13 dummy model confirms a smaller notch
Previously, schematic diagrams of the new smartphone models showed larger camera bumps and a slightly thicker design of the upcoming smartphone series and it was said that all four models of the iPhone 13 series would feature the changes. That report is corroborated by images shared by Wang Benhong of dummy models of iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models. The camera layout of the Pro model has slightly larger camera bumps and a thicker design.
The base models (5.4-inch iPhone mini and 6.1-inch iPhone) have a completely redesigned diagonal camera layout. That is probably because Apple is rumored to introduce LiDAR scanner across the upcoming series. So, this new layout will improve AR performance by giving horizontal and vertical parallax.
In April @DuanRui shared images of a compact notch achieved by redesigning the Face ID component in the lower section and speaker on the top. Now, the images show that the speaker is placed between the bezel and the screen, slightly above the smaller notch.
Earlier, a video by Unbox Therapy showed an iPhone 13 Pro Max dummy unit created on the CAD files. The dummy unit had a small notch, as well as larger camera lenses. As we approach the launch month, more and more information will pour in on the upcoming smartphone series’ alleged features. So, stay tuned to iThinkDifferent for all the latest updates.
