While the launch of Apple’s iPhone 14 lineup is still eight months away, analysts are already outlining their expectations. A new report citing analyst Jeff Pu suggests 120Hz ProMotion displays will come to all iPhone 14 models rather than being limited to the Pro variants. The same report also says all four iPhones will feature 6GB of RAM.
Analyst outlines expectations for iPhone 14 lineup
In a research note with Haitong International Securities ( via MacRumors), Pu stated all iPhone 14 models will feature ProMotion displays, compared to only Pro models in the iPhone 13 lineup. Currently, iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are the only iPhones with LTPO OLED displays that allow them to ramp up their refresh rate to 120Hz. However, they can also go down to as low as 10Hz, depending on the content being displayed on the screen. This helps with conserving energy and battery life longevity.
Pu previously said that Pro models in the upcoming lineup would feature 8GB of RAM, but based on a “supply chain check,” he is now saying all four iPhone 14 models will be equipped with 6GB of RAM instead due to cost considerations.
While 6GB of ram would be a bump for standard iPhone 14 models, Pro variants will not see an upgrade:
- iPhone 13 mini: 4GB
- iPhone 13: 4GB
- iPhone 13 Pro: 6GB
- iPhone 13 Pro Max: 6GB
- iPhone 14: 6GB
- iPhone 14 Max: 6GB
- iPhone 14 Pro: 6GB
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: 6GB
Corroborating previous reports from TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Taiwanese research firm TrendForce, Pu believes iPhone 14 models will feature an upgraded 48-megapixel main camera. Currently, Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro models feature 12-megapixel Wide, Ultra Wide, and Telephoto lenses. Pu also expects iPhone 14 Pro models will start with 256GB of storage, up from 128GB whereas iPhone 14 models will start with 64GB of storage.
Other rumors about the upcoming lineup include iPhone 14 featuring a hole + pill design and 8K video capture. The 2022 iPhone lineup will also get rid of the camera bumps, feature a new A16 Bionic chip, heavier titanium casing, and a 2TB storage variant.
