In addition to several new features like an Always-On display and camera with Photonic Engine, the new iPhone 14 Pro lineup features a redesigned pill+hole notch which has been optimized by iOS 16 to deliver a completely new experience through Dynamic Island.
The “magical” iPhone 14 Pro Dynamic Island redefines the functionality of the notch by adapting in real-time to show notifications, alerts, background activity, content, and control directly on the Lock and Home screens. Here is how the always live and active “Dynamic Island” on iPhone 14 Pro works.
iPhone 14 Pro Dynamic Island is an always live and active space that displays alerts, background activities, and more at a glance
Blurring the line between hardware and software, the iPhone 14 Pro Dynamic Island delivers a completely new intuitive way to interact with iPhone. Designed to consistently display alerts and background activity in a rich and delightful way, the highly adaptive Dynamic Island fluidly expands into different shapes using uniquely crafted animations and transitions.
For example, the iPhone 14 Pro Dynamic Island expands to alert users of an incoming call, confirm AirPods are connected, and show the phone is muted or put on charging.
Working seamlessly across the entire OS, the new lively and highly responsive space also displays content and controls on top of the UI without distracting users from the app they are in for ongoing background activities.
For example, when users swipe to go Home from Apple Music, the app smoothly morphs into Dynamic Island and stays active and visible. Users can tap and hold to see more options like pause, skip, rewind control or view the album’s artwork. Or see how far their ride is while texting a friend.
And when users have more than one activity in the background, Dynamic Island bubbles out into two elements. As an always live and active space, it features unique alert animations with their own personalities which makes them easy to identify at a glance for navigation, calling, timer, FaceID authentication, and more.
With the introduction of the Dynamic Island, the TrueDepth camera has been redesigned to take up less of the display area. Without impeding content on the screen, the Dynamic Island maintains an active state to allow users easier access to controls with a simple tap-and-hold. Ongoing background activities like Maps, Music, or a timer remain visible and interactive, and third-party apps in iOS 16 that provide information like sports scores and ride-sharing with Live Activities can take advantage of the Dynamic Island. – Apple
