Several iPhone 14 Pro users have complained that their new smartphone does not fit properly on their MagSafe Duo charger.
Apple introduced the MagSafe Duo charger in 2020 for users to simultaneously power up their iPhone and Apple Watch. Retailing for $129, the MagSafe Duo charger is compact and removes the need of carrying separate chargers for iPhone and Apple Watch, ideal for traveling. However, the Duo charger has an imperfect fit with the latest devices which are larger than the iPhone 12 series and Apple Watch Series 6 it launched with.
MagSafe Duo charger needs an upgrade to perfectly fit the latest iPhone 14 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra
User @ shared the issue on the Apple Support forum that his iPhone 14 Pro is not compatible with the MagSafe Duo charger because the camera module or lip is too far down for the charger to lay flat on the smartphone’s back when attached. The fitting issue exists for the affected users with or without an Apple MagSafe case.
Not sure if this is a one-off situation, but my MagSafe Duo Charger does not fit my iPhone 14 pro. The camera lip is to far down and the phone does not sit properly. Once again not sure if this is just my unit, but please let me know if this also is happening to you.
As the new iPhone 14 Pro models have larger camera modules than iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, this issue was inevitable. However, only 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro users are experiencing this issue, and not the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max because it is bigger in size and its camera module is placed higher than the 6.1-inch model.
However, it appears the tech company does not understand the issue being reported here.
An Apple Community specialist responded to the complaint with a link to the “How to use MagSafe Duo Charger with your iPhone and Apple Watch – Apple Support” and advice to use the “use the top larger side of the charger, to see if this works with your phone.”
When images of the smartphone not fitting properly on the MagSafe Duo Charger with and without the MagSafe case were shared on the forum, a Community specialist insisted that @Whal3y return the case and Duo Charger, and another recommended getting a refund on the MagSafe Duo charger “since it is not made to work with the iPhone 14 series” which turned out to be incorrect. The complainant wrote:
Ok, Thank you. However, on Apple’s official website, it says that the MagSafe Duo is compatible with the iPhone 14 lineup. I am also using Apple’s official MagSafe silicone case.
And the refund “will not be possible as the return window ended in mid August.”
Although the MagSafe Duo charger is powering the iPhone 14 Pro, it just does not fit perfectly. And the chargers fit issue is not restricted to the latest iPhones only. Previously, the company instructed Apple Watch Ultra users to place it flat on the MagSafe Duo charger for the magnets to connect.
Apple needs to understand that as it increases the size of its devices, it also needs to upgrade its MagSafe Duo charger to fit them perfectly and also add fast charging support which the current model lacks.
