Leaked schematics show iPhone 14 Pro “hole + pill” notch design

The upcoming iPhone 14 series is expected to launch in September 2022. Prior to that, rumor mills have been reporting heavily on its alleged display design, especially of the notch. A new leaked schematic image on Weibo of iPhone 14 Pro models shows a smaller “pill” shaped notch and hole for the camera which gives more screen real estate.

Previously, multiple sources have also said that Apple will redesign the notch in the upcoming iPhone series. Reliable analyst Ross Young reported that Cupertino tech giant will use a “hole + pill design” on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max to house the Face ID and camera components. Young also refuted the reports of Apple completely removing the notch and offering a punch-hole display instead. Along with the new report, @PanadaIsBald, and @DylanDKT also corroborate both of Young’s claims.

The leaker claims that the leaked schematic image is obtained from the Apple OLED display supplier, BOE. @Ark click wrote that:

It is said that BOE has received an order for Apple’s iPhone 14. This is its front panel shape. Is the hole digging really about to mature?

In his new video, Jon Prosser also said that he “independently been able to verify” that the leaked schematic is real and an accurate representation of the upcoming notch design in iPhone 14 Pro models. Prosser has a good track record; he accurately reports on AirTag, release dates of the Apple Watch Series 7, and other products.

However, it can not be said for certain that Apple has given BOE display order for the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models. After clearing Apple’s certification in 2020, BOE was awarded 5% of the OLED display orders for iPhone 12 models and for 6.1-inch iPhone 13 in 2021. Currently, Samsung and LG provide OLED display panels for iPhone Pro models.

Other expected features of the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models are memory bump to 8GB RAM, 8K video recording, 48MP wide lens, 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses. And entire iPhone 14 series will feature a 120Hz ProMotion display, will start with 64GB base storage capacity, a faster A16 Bionic chip, and a 2TB storage variant.
