Even before the launch of the new iPhone 13 series, reports on expected features of the iPhone 14 were out. Now, tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the iPhone 14 Pro will come with a new punch-hole display and major camera improvement, a 48MP wide camera. He also said Apple will only upgrade the low-mid range iPhones but also introduce a new model.
The notch introduced in the iPhone X series brought FaceID authentication but it also impacts users’ viewing experience. The new iPhone 13 Series has a smaller notch but it’s still there. Therefore, the alleged punch-hole display will allow Apple to get rid of the notch by moving the sensors under the display and giving access to the selfie camera via the punch hole. Although under-display punch-hole camera system technology does not deliver satisfactory results, ZTE and Oppo have made some improvements in the tech and the improvements might have gained Apple’s interest.
In addition to iPhone 14 Pro models, the 2022 iPhone SE will receive major updates
Kuo’s new report corroborates previous claims that Apple will introduce a punch-hole display in iPhone 14 Pro models and will keep the notch in entry-level models. He also confirms that Apple will ditch the 5.4-inch mini variant and will only keep two 6.1-inch models and two 6.7-inch models in the 2022 iPhone series.
Furthermore, he states the iPhone 14 Pro models will offer a 48MP wide camera and would retail for less than $900. If that holds to be true, it will be the biggest camera upgrade coming to the next-generation smartphone series. Kuo also reiterated that iPhone SE (3rd generation) will launch in 2022 with 5G network support.
Hardware selling points for 2022 iPhones include 1) a new iPhone SE with 5G support (1H22), 2) a new and more affordable 6.7″ iPhone (2H22), and 3) two new high-end models equipped with a punch-hole display (replacing the notch area design) and a 48MP wide camera (2H22).
The earlier report said that the 2023 iPhone SE will have a larger 6.1-inch display and a punch-hole display.
