Apple’s internal documents obtained by researcher and Apple leaker @URedditor reveal that faster Wi-Fi 6E will be coming iPhone 15 Pro models this year.
The tech company debuted advanced Wi-Fi 6E in the new iPad Pro with M2 chips and recently, expanded it to the 2023 MacBook Pro and Mac mini. Immediately after, it was speculated that the tech would be coming to iPhone 15 series. However, the report did not mention whether Wi-Fi 6E would be available across the iPhone 15 series or would be released in iPhone 15 Pro models.
iPhone 15 Pro models to feature A17 chip, along with Wi-Fi 6E
@URedditor’s documents, viewed by MacRumors, consist of illustrations of the antenna architecture of the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, referred to as D8x which detail that support for Wi-Fi 6E faster networks will only be available on the Pro models, exclusively. And standard iPhone 15 models, referred to as D3y, will still feature Wi-Fi 6 wireless connection.
Wi-Fi 6E uses 6GHz wireless band to deliver a faster and more reliable wireless connection. Compared to Wi-Fi 6, the next-generation Wi-Fi 6E offers faster connectivity speeds, lower latency, and more capacity.
According to Apple, users require a Wi-Fi router or access point that supports Wi-Fi 6E and has its 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands also enabled, preferably using a single network name (SSID) across all bands to create a Wi-Fi 6E network.
Furthermore, the internal documents also detail that iPhone 15 Pro models will feature an A17 Bionic chip built on a 3nm process while the iPhone 15 models will be equipped with an A16 Bionic chip which is currently used in iPhone 14 Pro models. However, the Pro models will not feature the rumored solid-state volume buttons.
In the latest iPhone 14 series, Apple divided the gap between standard and Pro models and it is speculated that the new iPhone 15 series would further widen the gap by upgrading the camera system, processor, display, wireless connectivity, and other features in Pro models.
