The upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are rumored to feature notably larger display sizes than their predecessors. In addition to this, Apple is also working on advanced display technology for next year’s flagship Pro models.
iPhone 16 Pro models to feature advanced display tech with micro-lens and power-efficient OLED
According to reliable sources, the iPhone 16 Pro will boast a 6.27-inch display, while the larger variant, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, will sport an expansive 6.85-inch screen. This represents a noticeable increase from the current 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
With the increase in display size, the iPhone 16 Pro models’ overall dimensions will show a slight increase in height and width. However, the thickness of the devices will reportedly remain constant, maintaining the sleek and elegant form factor that Apple is known for.
The larger form factor not only provides a more immersive user experience but also offers Apple additional internal space for components. This opens the door to possibilities such as larger, longer-lasting batteries and potential display improvements.
Apple is rumored to be exploring micro-lens technology to enhance the brightness of OLED displays on the iPhone 16 models while potentially reducing power consumption. Micro-lens arrays use a uniform pattern of billions of lenses to reduce internal reflection, thereby increasing perceived brightness without consuming more power.
While the iPhone 16 series brings significant changes to the Pro models, the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are expected to retain their current display sizes. However, rumors suggest that the 2025 iPhone 17 lineup may introduce larger displays to the standard models, along with a shift to a taller aspect ratio of 19.6:9.
What else do we know about the iPhone 16 Pro?
The Pro models are expected to incorporate tetraprism telephoto lenses with 5X optical zoom, providing improved optical capabilities. Supply chain sources support this claim, with LG Innotek likely to continue supplying the technology, suggesting advancements in folded zoom models.
Moreover, the iPhone 16 Pro models are slated to feature the Snapdragon X75 modem, ensuring faster 5G download and upload speeds. This modem boasts impressive specs, including 10 Gbps peak download speed and 3.5 Gbps peak upload speed, promising an enhanced connectivity experience.
