‘iPhone SE+ 5G’ set to arrive this year, larger iPhone SE with 5.7-Inch display in 2023

Apple is planning to release a refreshed iPhone SE with 5G connectivity for the first time within the next few months. Possibly at Apple’s first special event of 2022 expected to be held in March or April. That device is set to use the same 4.7-inch display as the 2020 iPhone SE but according to a new report, a larger model is coming next year.

Redesigned iPhone SE with 5.7-inch display coming in 2023

Rumors of a larger iPhone SE have been circulating since 2020. Now, display analyst Ross Young says it is possible Apple will launch a 5.7-inch iPhone SE as soon as next year. It was previously rumored that the company would finally upgrade the external design of its budget smartphone in 2024, but it might happen sooner.

In a tweet, Young says the third-generation iPhone SE will be called “iPhone SE+ 5G,” as it will be the first smartphone in the lineup to feature 5G connectivity. Young also says he expects the device to have a 4.7-inch display, in line with previous reports. Young also talks about another budget-friendly iPhone that could be unveiled in 2023 and would feature a 5.7-inch display.

Apple’s iPhone SE has proved to be a popular choice for consumers on a budget and people who want to keep using a Home button rather than switch to Face ID. However, if Apple adopts a bigger display for the lineup, the device could see a redesign similar to the iPhone XR which would mean the end of the Home button.

In addition, since Apple does not refresh its SE lineup on an annual basis, it seems unlikely that it would release a larger iPhone SE as soon as next year. It is possible the fourth-generation model could be available alongside the upcoming device.

While Young has a fairly good track record in supply chain information about Apple’s future products, “iPhone SE + 5G” does not seem to go with Apple’s branding. So, as of now, the rumored name should be taken with a grain of salt.

According to previous reports from TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the next-generation iPhone SE will have a similar design to the current model with a 4.7-inch LCD panel, unlike high-end iPhones which feature OLED panels. Alongside 5G connectivity, the smartphone will be equipped with the A15 chip which is featured in the iPhone 13 lineup.
