With the launch of the M2 Ultra Mac Pro, Apple has finally completed the transition of the Mac lineup from Intel processors to Apple Silicon.
The new desktop computer features the same design as the Intel-based Mac Pro and it is powered by the most advanced Apple Silicon, M2 Ultra for faster performance and enhanced power efficiency.
However, Apple also released the 2023 Mac Studio with the same M2 Ultra chip that delivers comparable performance as the M2 Ultra Mac Pro which might make one question why did the tech giant launch the M2 Ultra Mac Pro for a much higher price tag starting at $7000.
For those who are wondering, why M2 Ultra Mac Pro exists and if it is better than M2 Ultra Mac Studio, here are the reasons.
Here are the reasons why M2 Ultra Mac Pro exists
Apple introduced its most powerful and most expensive computer Mac Pro in 2006. Designed for professionals, the computer featured PCI expansion slots, a powerful cooling system, and a lot of ports, unlike other Macs. And the same design philosophy is still true for the 2023 Mac Pro and this is what gives the 2023 Mac Pro an edge over the 2023 Mac Studio.
The new Apple Silicon Mac Pro is better than the 2023 Mac Studio with M2 Ultra because of its thermal system with three large fans to drastically reduce thermal throttling, extra ports, more importantly, the PCI expansion slots for sound, storage, I/O, networking and other cards, and storage which are required in advanced professional workflows for production studios, creative artists, music studios and others.
