The iPhone Dev Team just upgraded redsn0w to version 0.9.6b1 to support jailbreaking iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4.1/4.0 [MC and non-MC models as well]. As promised, here’s our easy to use guide on how to jailbreak iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4.1.
- Download iOS 4.0 or 4.1 for iPod Touch 2G. Place it on your desktop for easy access.
- Download redsn0w 0.9.6b1. Available only for Mac currently.
- Download and install iTunes 10.
- Now connect your iPod Touch 2G to your computer and using iTunes, upgrade to iOS 4.0/4.1 This can be done using iTunes as described here.
- Now that you have upgraded to iOS 4.0/4.1, you’ll have to jailbreak it by using either iOS 4.0/4.1 (whichever you have installed on your iPod Touch 2G) with redsn0w 0.9.6b1. Run redsn0w and click browse and point it to the iOS 4.1/4.0 firmware you downloaded.

- Click Next. You’ll be given some options. Just select Install Cydia and battery percentage. Multitasking and home screen wallpaper can be enabled later through a Cydia app.
- Turn off your iPod Touch and connect it to the computer. We’ll have to put it in DFU mode now. To do this, hold the power button for 3 seconds, and then hold the home button too without releasing the power button for 10 seconds. Then release the power button but keep holding the home button until redsn0w starts doing its thing.
- Once redsn0w is done and the iPod Touch reboots, it will be jailbroken.
- If you want to enable/disable multitasking or background wallpapers, use zToggle. We don’t recommend it though as it will make your iPod sluggish.

Download iOS 4.1
Download iOS 4.0

I followed the steps perfectly but still no luck i get stuck on the part where it says waiting for reboot. so i let it sit for about 2 hours now and nothing has happend, any ideas?
Try rebooting it manually by holding the power and home button to shut down and then restart. If it doesn’t work, retry the whole process after restoring the firmware.

Hi i did every thing it always gets stuck at “Waiting fot reboot”..every single time try it about 15 times .. i have a feeling its because i jailbreak it at 3.1.2 with spirit..so does spirit not like Redsn0w or something

I had the same problem. The second try I turned off itunes altogether from the beginning and it worked. I think it interferes with the installation
hey i iave an ipod touch 3g mc model running on 4.1 IOS and when i do the redsnow 6 something beta 6 i put it into dfu mode but then it just stops there and then doesnt do anything what do i do to continue the jailbreaking process so it works :) also i did try to manually jailbreak it

I have an ipod touch 2g mc model. I have followed the info times and i get stuck at waiting for reboot. It does not do anything just shows me that on the screen. I left it for 1 hour and still nothing. What is wrong? What can i do to fix this so it will work for me?

Same problem as Yasir. I have tried everything: un-pluging, keep holding down home, restoring settings… Is this the only jailbreak for 2g 4.1 mc?
redsnow doesn’t work on ipos touch mc models (only non mc models)
u guys (and many others, incl me) gotta wait for the shattered jailbreak to come ^^
SHAtter/greenpois0n only supports A4 devices (ex: iPa.d iPod Touch 4g, iPhone 4) so you might as well use limera1n. (came out on 9 of october)
And this is 0.9.6 *BETA 1* (it’s a beta. wait for the next couple betas to come out, and the bugs will most likely be fixed.)
But I’m warning you, Limera1n uses an unstable untether. (As stated by the chronic dev team) so use it at your own risk.
greenpois0n release has been postponed because of geohot’s limera1n exploit, they’re using the same one (but a more stable version) to protect the original greenpois0n/SHAtter exploit.

ok so i have an ipod touch 2g mc model i have a windows computer. ive waited to long to find out that limera1n doesnt support ipod touch 2g. so fuck geohot. now im hearing that greenposion wont support it either. someone give me some info. on how to jailbreak ipod touch 2g mc model 4.1 or how long i will have to wait for one to come. thanks

From iPhone Dev-Team: “Any Windows users seeing “Waiting for reboot” for too long (more than 20 seconds or so), please try “shaking” the JB process by unplugging then replugging your USB cable (while letting redsn0w continue to run). Also, try using a USB port “closer” to your computer (as opposed to on your monitor or behind another hub).”

I have a second generation ipod touch 16 gig, and with limera1n, it says its jailbroken, but never shows the “drip” icon on my screen, and my ipod becomes stuck in the “Plug into iTunes” scree.
With RedSn0w it says that my firmware (ios 4.1) it gets stuck at the (i think) “Uploading Ramdisk” stage…and on my ipod it shows the “Downloading Jailbreak” Screen. I tried jailbreaking the 4.1 with 4.0 i downloaded, and it works all the way (with all the options like “enable multitasking/wallpaper) but Cydia is just a white icon (even after reboot) and all the sources are missing (it stalls at “verifying link” if I add a new one and the main cydia page doen’t load. I also get an error. PLEASE HELP! I WILL DO ALMOST ANYTHING EXCEPT CODING!!!!!

Trying to jailbreak ipod touch 2g MC-Model running 4.1 on a Windows 7 Ultimate x32 Bit Computer. Everything works until it says “Waiting for reboot”. I’ve already tried “shaking” the jailbreak by switching USBs and getting it to a “closer” USB Port on the computer. I’ve tried shaking the jailbreak over and over and repeating the jailbreaking process, but it still won’t get past the “Waiting for reboot”. Any updates on this problem with Windows or any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

I have the exact same problem on my ipod touch 2g MC
redns0w hangs when “waiting for reboot..” and my ipod can’t get out of DFU mode. It is stuck with a black screen and i need to restore it to get it working again.
you dont have to restore to get out of DFU mode, you can just hold the home and power button until u see the apple logo then jsut let it boot normaly

I have the same problem. So far there is no jailbreak available for itouch 2g mc running on ios 4.1.I tried in mac and windows and it’s the same problem. I wish they didn’t advertise things that are not true:

Last I checked 2G MC does not jailbreak with redsn0w even 9.6b2 once I select my IPSW file tells me the MC Model is yet to be supported :(
Greenposi0n worked when I tried it but would keep rebooting my device at random times so gave up on that.
