Jailbreak iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4.1/4.0 using redsn0w 0.9.6b1

The iPhone Dev Team just upgraded redsn0w to version 0.9.6b1 to support jailbreaking iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4.1/4.0 [MC and non-MC models as well]. As promised, here’s our easy to use guide on how to jailbreak iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4.1.

  1. Download iOS 4.0 or 4.1 for iPod Touch 2G. Place it on your desktop for easy access.
  2. Download redsn0w 0.9.6b1. Available only for Mac currently.
  3. Download and install iTunes 10.
  4. Now connect your iPod Touch 2G to your computer and using iTunes, upgrade to iOS 4.0/4.1 This can be done using iTunes as described here.
  5. Now that you have upgraded to iOS 4.0/4.1,  you’ll have to jailbreak it by using either iOS 4.0/4.1 (whichever you have installed on your iPod Touch 2G) with redsn0w 0.9.6b1. Run redsn0w and click browse and point it to the iOS 4.1/4.0 firmware you downloaded.

Jailbreak iPod Touch 2G with iOS 4.1/4.0 using redsn0w 0.9.6b1 [Guide]

  6. Click Next. You’ll be given some options. Just select Install Cydia and battery percentage. Multitasking and home screen wallpaper can be enabled later through a Cydia app.
  7. Turn off your iPod Touch and connect it to the computer. We’ll have to put it in DFU mode now. To do this, hold the power button for 3 seconds, and then hold the home button too without releasing the power button for 10 seconds. Then release the power button but keep holding the home button until redsn0w starts doing its thing.
  8. Once redsn0w is done and the iPod Touch reboots, it will be jailbroken.
  9. If you want to enable/disable multitasking or background wallpapers, use zToggle. We don’t recommend it though as it will make your iPod sluggish.

Download redsn0w 0.9.6b1 for Mac

Download iTunes 10

Download iOS 4.1

Download iOS 4.0

  1. ok so i have an ipod touch 2g mc model i have a windows computer. ive waited to long to find out that limera1n doesnt support ipod touch 2g. so fuck geohot. now im hearing that greenposion wont support it either. someone give me some info. on how to jailbreak ipod touch 2g mc model 4.1 or how long i will have to wait for one to come. thanks

    1. i’m in the exact same situation!! ipod touch 2g mc model is always the last device to get a jailbreak!! its soo stupid! hopefully limera1n gets updated for us soon!

  2. this is from limera1n.com:
    known bugs
some people must reboot to see Cydia
some people still don’t have windows
    beta iOS versions aren’t supported
iPod Touch 2G support coming soon
    for 3G, use redsn0w
limera1n app is a white box, i know. use it anyway

So, i believe that means that hes working on 2G, but he wanted to release before ChronicDev could release theirs.
I believe redsn0w works for 2G, im about to try it right now. I also have iPod touch 2G MC model. Ill let you know.

  3. I have an ipod 2G MC model, and I tried this JB.
It gets to the waiting for reboot screen and just gets stuck there. Is there a fix for that?

  4. I have the same problem as above: “I have an ipod 2G MC model, and I tried this JB. It gets to the waiting for reboot screen and just gets stuck there. Is there a fix for that?” Please fix this!

  5. im using a ipod touch 2g and it keeps saying waiting for reeboot i still have my finger on the home button. nothing is happening????

    1. From iPhone Dev-Team: “Any Windows users seeing “Waiting for reboot” for too long (more than 20 seconds or so), please try “shaking” the JB process by unplugging then replugging your USB cable (while letting redsn0w continue to run). Also, try using a USB port “closer” to your computer (as opposed to on your monitor or behind another hub).”

  6. i try this JB.. once the device goes into DFU mode..

It stuck at please wait while your device is being process

    waiting for DFU device

  7. I have a second generation ipod touch 16 gig, and with limera1n, it says its jailbroken, but never shows the “drip” icon on my screen, and my ipod becomes stuck in the “Plug into iTunes” scree.

With RedSn0w it says that my firmware (ios 4.1) it gets stuck at the (i think) “Uploading Ramdisk” stage…and on my ipod it shows the “Downloading Jailbreak” Screen. I tried jailbreaking the 4.1 with 4.0 i downloaded, and it works all the way (with all the options like “enable multitasking/wallpaper) but Cydia is just a white icon (even after reboot) and all the sources are missing (it stalls at “verifying link” if I add a new one and the main cydia page doen’t load. I also get an error. PLEASE HELP! I WILL DO ALMOST ANYTHING EXCEPT CODING!!!!!

  8. no one is working we need to wait i got a ipod touch 2g MC 8gb and nothing is working we need to wait for 2g MC ios 4.1 suported :(

  9. Does it work for itouch 2g mc that have not been jailbroken on 3.1.2 before?

  10. Trying to jailbreak ipod touch 2g MC-Model running 4.1 on a Windows 7 Ultimate x32 Bit Computer. Everything works until it says “Waiting for reboot”. I’ve already tried “shaking” the jailbreak by switching USBs and getting it to a “closer” USB Port on the computer. I’ve tried shaking the jailbreak over and over and repeating the jailbreaking process, but it still won’t get past the “Waiting for reboot”. Any updates on this problem with Windows or any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

  11. When I tried using redsn0w I went through the whole process and I put it in DFU mode but then it won’t reboot. Can you tell me what’s wrong

  12. I have the exact same problem on my ipod touch 2g MC
redns0w hangs when “waiting for reboot..” and my ipod can’t get out of DFU mode. It is stuck with a black screen and i need to restore it to get it working again.

    1. you dont have to restore to get out of DFU mode, you can just hold the home and power button until u see the apple logo then jsut let it boot normaly

  13. Got the same problem…”waiting for reboot” didn’t show any process..need some advice here..
    thanx a lot..

  14. I have the same problem. So far there is no jailbreak available for itouch 2g mc running on ios 4.1.I tried in mac and windows and it’s the same problem. I wish they didn’t advertise things that are not true:
REDSNOW DOES NOT JAILBREAK ITOUCH 2G MC IOS 4.1

  15. i cant seem to let it process it writes please while it processes but i waited 10 mins nothing happened

    1. It has been working perfectly for me. I tried it again today.
You need to follow the guide properly and it will just work. I don’t know how else to help you guys except for writing the correct steps. :/
