Rumors mills are expecting a 27-inch iMac to launch in 2022 which might be branded as iMac Pro. A new report by Apple-leaker @Dylan sheds more light on next-generation all-in-one computers by the Cupertino tech giant.
In a Twitter thread, Dylan writes that LG is developing three standalone displays for Apple which include two monitors similar to the current 24-inch M1 iMac and an alleged larger 27-inch model and the third display is assumed to be 32-inch Pro Display XDR.
As part of its transition from Intel to Apple Silicon, the Cupertino tech company launched the redesigned 24-inch iMac with M1 chip that has received favorable reviews because of the fast performance and battery life delivered by the M1 chip.
Now, the company is expected to launch iMac Pro powered by M1 Pro and M1 Max chips used in the 2021 MacBook Pro models. And Dylan is one of the first leakers to claim that Apple is going to upgrade the 32-inch Pro Display XDR with Apple Silicon.
Apple to equip the new 27-inch iMac and 32-inch Pro Display XDR with mini-LED display
According to @Dylan LG monitors are encased in “unbranded” enclosures in the development phase but their specifications are the same as the 24-inch and 27-inch iMacs and 32-inch Pro Display XDR. However, he did not share the specification which give-away that the monitors will be Apple-branded.
He added that the next-generation Pro Display XDR will be equipped with Apple Silicon. If true that will mark the transition of another Mac model from Intel to an Apple custom processor. Furthermore, the 32-inch and 27-inch monitors will be equipped with mini-LED displays to feature 120Hz ProMotion tech with a high refresh rate. This year, Apple introduced a 120Hz refresh rate in iPhone 13 Pro and 2021 MacBook Pro models.
This claim of 120Hz refresh rate corroborates the report by Ross Young, a display analyst. In October, Young said that the new larger iMac will launch with a 120Hz ProMotion display in the first quarter of 2022.
Lastly, he said that references of Apple silicon for the 24-inch and 27-inch iMacs were not found. Since 24-inch iMac is powered by an M1 chip, it is highly unlikely for Apple to skip that in the next-generation models.
