Apple’s upcoming M1X MacBook Pro models, expected to be announced during the October 18 ‘Unleashed’ event, could feature 120Hz refresh rate with ProMotion tech. This news has come in via Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, who said on Twitter that the panel suppliers for the latest iPad Pro and MacBook Pro are the same, which is why the display tech would also be similar.
This same display tech could include oxide backplanes, mini-LED backlights, and 120Hz refresh rates. Ross believes that both new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will have both mini-LEDs as well as 120Hz refresh rates. The number of dimming zones could also be similar to those on 12.9-inch iPad Pro. The larger iPad Pro is the only other product that Apple ships with a mini-LED display.

Here are the tweets by Ross Young, in which he revealed the details regarding the new MacBook Pro displays and their 120Hz refresh rates.
Panel suppliers are the same between the iPad Pro's and MacBook Pro's – LG Display and Sharp. Expecting similar technology – oxide backplanes, miniLED backlights and 120Hz refresh rates. MiniLEDs, 100% confirmed.

Likely similar to the 12.9" iPad Pro…

120Hz refresh rate would not only provide a smoother user interface on MacBook Pro, but ProMotion tech would mean that the adaptive refresh rate could go down to as low as 10Hz, depending on what is being displayed on the screen. This could provide longer battery life, especially when watching videos, similar to what users are experiencing on iPhone 13 Pro models.
Along with new display tech, the new MacBook Pro models will also be powered by powerful M1X chips, feature slimmer bezels and a flat design like iPhone 12, higher resolutions, and see the return of beloved features like HDMI port, SD-card slot, and MagSafe charging. It has also been rumored that Apple will get rid of the Touch Bar on these new MacBook Pro models, and include a 1080p webcam for better FaceTime calls.
Ross Young seems sure that 120Hz will be there on the new MacBook Pro models. He also tweeted that the future display tech on MacBook pro will eventually be OLED instead of mini-LED.
Apple’s MacBook Pro launch event will be held on October 18, 10 am PDT, and we will find out for sure what the company has in store. Intel-based 16-inch MacBook Pro models are already out of stock at most Apple Stores so the launch is imminent.
