Renders of new “Mac Studio” and Apple external display leaked, ahead of launch on March 8

The Cupertino tech giant’s new “Peek Performance” event is just hours away and the rumor mills are busy with giving inside information. Leaker and YouTuber @Luke Miani has shared the alleged renders of two upcoming devices “Mac Studio” and Apple external display called the “Apple Studio Display” ahead of their launch on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

Last week, a developer source exclusively told 9to5 Mac that the tech giant is working on a hybrid of Mac mini and Mac Pro called the “Mac Studio” but will be a pro-version of Mac mini. More interestingly, the source said that the tech is also working on a next-generation Pro Display XDR which will feature a larger 36-inch display with 7K resolution. The claims were corroborated by tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Redesigned Mac mini will be taller and the new Apple external display will be cheaper

As per renders shared by Miani on his YouTube channel, the new “Mac Studio” will have the same footprint as the (2020) Mac mini but it will be taller, about 4-inch tall. The redesigned “Mac Studio” will have curved edges like the new iPad and iPhone models and a glass top with an Apple logo. Leaker expects the tech giant will enter the mid-range desktop market with the next-generation Mac mini model.

“Apple Studio Display” – new Apple External Display

The new Apple external display will have a 24-inch M1 iMac-like design and will feature a 27-inch screen, thicker bezels but the external display will not have cooling holes at the back like Pro Display XDR because it will not feature a mini-LED display. The upcoming external display will not come with a heavy price tag and will be a cheaper model than Pro Display XDR.

Miani also says that the new iPhone SE 3 with 5G network support and iPad Air 5 are expected to launch at the event, along with the new Mac Studio, Apple Studio Display, and MacBook Air powered by next-generation Apple Silicon. But 13-inch MacBook Pro might not make the cut.
