Much to the dismay of Apple fans, it was recently reported that new colorways initially rumored to be available for the 2022 MacBook Air are not going to materialize. TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reiterated this report and further added to it by revealing Apple’s shipment forecast for the new laptop.
Only one new color will be available for the new MacBook Air, contrary to earlier rumors
As reported in the latest edition of the “Power On” newsletter by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the MacBook Air will be available in the following colorways: space gray, silver, dark blue, and light gold.
If you have kept up with rumors about the upcoming MacBook Air, you might know that analysts suggested that the device would feature a new flat edge-to-edge design with white bezels and a white keyboard similar to the 24-inch iMac. In addition, it was expected that MacBook Air would be available in a bunch of fun colors, including green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver.
Kuo recently took to Twitter saying he agrees with Gurman. The one new color the analyst is referring to is expected to be a dark blue, similar to the dark blue 24-inch iMac.
Agree with @markgurman. The new MacBook Air (MBA) will more likely offer three standard color options and probably plus one new color, rather than the rainbow style like the iMac as the market expects.
Kuo went on to say that the shipment forecast for the upcoming MacBook Air is 6-7 million units if Apple supplier Quanta can recover from the ongoing lockdowns in China before 3Q22. Furthermore, the analyst believes lead times for the 2022 MacBook Air will be better than the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models since both Quanta and Foxconn will ship it. The MacBook Pro models are only shipped by Quanta.
2H22 shipment forecast of new MBA is 6-7mn units if Quanta’s Shanghai capacity can be back to pre-lockdown level before 3Q22. Delivery for new MBA made by two EMS (Quanta the 1st & Foxconn the 2nd) should be better than existing 14″/16″ MacBook Pro (shipped by Quanta only).
Gurman in his latest newsletter also revealed that a new 13-inch MacBook Pro will not be announced at WWDC even though Apple initially planned for it. Due to ongoing lockdowns in China, the laptop has been delayed and is now expected to be launched later this year.
As for what Gurman expects from the 2022 MacBook Air, the laptop will feature a similar design to the latest MacBook Pro, it will be equipped with a 13-inch display, Touch ID, MagSafe charging, and two USB-C ports.
Apple is widely expected to debut iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, tvOS 16, and watchOS 9 at WWDC 2022 which will kick off at 10 a.m. PT (10: 30 p.m. IST). on Monday, June 6.
