A new report by DigiTimes reconfirms that the new entry-level MacBook Pro with next-generation M2 chip will launch next month, along with new iPad Air (5th generation), and 5G iPhone SE (3rd generation).
Earlier, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg claimed that Apple is planning to hold a virtual event on or near March 8, 2022, to unveil the aforementioned products.
Except for the processor, the upcoming M2 MacBook Pro will have the same features as the M1 MacBook Pro (2020)
Citing supply chain sources, the report viewed by MacRumors states that the new 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by M2 chip will launch in “early March”. But it vaguely, mentions that the upcoming entry-level Pro model will have the same features as the 2020 M1 MacBook Pro model.
Furthermore, the company’s partners will reportedly keep their production units operational during the Lunar New Year holiday to maintain a steady supply for the “increasing” demand of Mac powered by Apple Silicon. Driven by the M1 chip series, Mac sales accounted for $10.9 billion with 25% growth in Q1, 2022.
Apple reportedly will release a spate of new devices in early March, including new MacBook Pro adopting the latest M2 processor, budget-level 5G iPhone SE and iPad, the sources said. Except for the processor, most other components used in the new MacBook Pro reportedly will feature almost the same specs as those for existing model featuring M1 chips, leading MacBook Pro supply chain partners to maintain production during the week-long Lunar New Year holiday to satisfy increasing demand for Mac series, the sources continued.
However, Gurman detailed that Apple is going to bid farewell to Touch Bar forever replacing it with physical function keys. Currently, 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020) is the only model which features the Touch Bar, the tech giant has already removed it from 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models powered by M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.
Gurman also said that the upcoming model will not be equipped with a mini-LED or ProMotion display to differentiate it from the 2021 MacBook Pro models. Interestingly, only one Apple leaker @Dylan has claimed that Apple will bump the size of the display in the new entry-level model from 13-inch to 14-inch.
