After launching the first-generation iPod Shuffle in 2005, Apple introduced the third-generation iPod Shuffle in 2009 with a slimmer design, playlists and VoiceOver. It was discontinued in 2010.
The fourth-generation redesigned iPod Shuffle was released in 2015 with physical buttons for volume, play/pause, power/shuffle mode switch, and VoiceOver. It was also available in multiple colors. It was discontinued in July 2017, along with iPod Nano.
It is interesting to see that Apple is releasing fixes for a vintage product. A product is considered vintage when the company has stopped selling it for more than 5 years and less than 7 years and is not eligible for repair by Apple and its authorized service providers.
The company’s co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs commended the music player’s compact design, portability, and listening experience.
“iPod shuffle is smaller and lighter than a pack of gum and costs less than $100. With most flash-memory music players users must use tiny displays and complicated controls to find their music; with iPod shuffle you just relax and it serves up new combinations of your music every time you listen.”
