Apple seeded macOS Monterey 12.1 beta to developers and a day later, release the update as a public beta. In the latest beta version of macOS Monterey, the company has added the delayed FaceTime SharePlay feature.
Announced at the WWDC 21 event, FaceTime SharePlay virtually connects Apple users to watch movies or shows, listen to music, conduct tutorials in real-time via screen sharing, and much more across Apple devices. However, the feature was introduced in iOS 15.1, iPadOS 15.1, tvOS 15.1, and watchOS 15.1 updates and was pushed to ‘later this fall’ launch time on macOS Monterey.
Mac users will be able to enjoy FaceTime SharePlay calls on macOS Monterey 12.1 update
When the FaceTime SharePlay feature will launch to the public in macOS Monterey 12.1, Mac users will be able to watch their favorite episodes, movies, or moments, explore and enjoy songs on Apple Music, or share screen to shop together, check out social media and more, all in real-time. Tested on iPhone and iPad, the feature works smoothly with compatible apps and it’s great for screen sharing.
Currently, SharePlay is supported by Apple’s native and a few third-party apps. Therefore, it does not support Netflix and chill at the moment even with screen sharing. Having said that TikTok, YouTube, and other video streaming apps are compatible with SharePlay.
