The release date of Apple’s next-gen software updates for Mac and iPad, macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16, has been confirmed by Apple. Mark your calendars! the updates are slated to arrive on Monday, October 24.
New software updates for Mac and iPad, macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16, to arrive next week
iPadOS 16 includes a ton of major improvements to multitasking, new display modes, and even supports an external display. It also includes new features such as Reference Mode and Display Zoom and more.
One of the headlining features of iPadOS 16 is Stage Manager, a multitasking feature that automatically organizes apps and windows, making it quick and easy to switch between tasks. It even allows users to create overlapping windows of different sizes in a single view. Users can even drag and drop windows from the side, or open apps from the Dock to create groups of apps for a seamless, more efficient workflow.
Stage Manager is also supported by macOS Ventura. On a Mac, the functionality organizes open apps and windows and allows users to view everything that is currently open as small thumbnails on the side of their display.
Other macOS Ventura features include gaming improvements, enhanced continuity features, and updates to Safari, Mail, Spotlight, Messages, and more. Talking about Continuity, one of the biggest features under this allows Mac users to use their iPhone as a webcam. This requires zero setup and the Mac can automatically recognize and turn on the camera on the iPhone when it is nearby, without even waking it up.
Apple has also released the first macOS Ventura release candidate to developers and public beta testers as well as the first release candidate for iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1.
Other releases scheduled for next week include new hardware. Apple today announced the M2 iPad Pro and the 10th-generation iPad with a huge redesign. The new iPads are available for order today in 28 countries and regions and will start shipping on October 26. The tech giant also announced a new Apple TV 4K, but it is not scheduled to launch until November.
