A survey of buying trends of Apple’s male and female customers by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) reveals that men prefer the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro models than women in the United States.
The latest iPhone 14 series features four models: 6.1-inch iPhone 14, 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Plus, 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Although all standard and Pro models have large screens, they offer different technologies. The iPhone 14 Pro models are powered by an advanced A16 Bionic chip, and feature redesigned pill+hole notch display with 120Hz ProMotion tech, Dynamic Island, longer battery life, LiDAR sensor, improved camera system, and much more.
33% of women opt for iPhone 14 Pro while 41% of men bought iPhone Pro models in 2022
For the investigation, CIRP collected data from customers who purchases an iPhone in 2022 and divided it into male and female owners.
Analysis of the data showed that the majority of men preferred iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro models while women bought iPhone 14 Plus. It was also found that both genders equally preferred the entry-level iPhone SE.
- 41% of men purchased an iPhone 13 Pro/ Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max in 2022
- 33% of women purchased an iPhone 13 Pro/ Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max in 2022
- 12% of women purchased an iPhone 14/ 14 Plus in 2022
- 8% of men purchases an iPhone 14/ 14 Plus in 2022
The report also details that 37% of men and women purchased an iPhone 12/ 12 mini and iPhone 13/ 13 mini and 7% owned an iPhone SE in 2022.
Having said that CIRP did not present or assume the reasons for the difference in smartphone preferences of men and women. The researchers wrote:
“We aren’t going to explore broader gender questions about motivation behind iPhone choices,” the firm writes. “Our database does not address ego, technology comfort, selfie habits, or hand-size issues relating to selecting a premium phone. We leave that speculation to the reader…”
Previously, it was found that Apple products are most popular among teens in the U.S., especially AirPods in 2022 and Mac was the company’s least popular device.
