Microsoft has released new updates to its Surface products: Surface Book 3, Surface Go 2, Surface Dock 3 and new headphones and earbuds. The upgrades laptop and tablet are now available with powerful processors and longer battery life to deliver improved performance compared to their respective predecessors. All of the new devices are available for preorder online in selected markets.
Surface Go 2 – Thinner Bezels and m3 Processor
Starting at $399, the new Surface Go 2 has a 10.5-inch larger Pixel Sense screen in a lightweight thin design. Powered by an 8th generation Intel Core m3 processor, the new tablet delivers up to 64% faster performance with longer battery life.
Microsoft has packed the latest Surface Go model with dual studio microphones and a 5MP front facing camera for sharper photos and improved video in low light. To scan documents or surfaces like whiteboards, Microsoft has released a native camera app for the rear facing camera in the new Surface Go 2. As per the official announcement, the new hardware and software additions are inspired by user’s current usage trends during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To make Surface Go more appropriate for remote learning and working, it has Surface Pen support. Users also have the option of buying a wide range of accessories for a personalized look like sleeves, covers and more, available in ice blue, poppy red, black and other colors. The new Surface Go 2 tablet will be available from May 12, starting from $399.99. The m3 model supports LTE connectivity and ships for $729.
Surface Book 3 – The Laptop
The latest Surface Book 3, available in 13-inch and 15-inch variants, is designed to deliver 50% improved performance than its predecessor. Both variants are powered by 10th generation Intel Core processors. For gaming enthusiasts, the 15-inch variant of the new laptop has an NVIDIA GeForce GTX GPU, with the freedom to upgrade to a Quadro RTX 3000 for professionals. To further enhance performance, the new Surface Book 3 can be configured with up to 32GB RAM and faster SSD.
Surface Book 3 will also feature up to 17.5 hours battery, HD PixelSense display, and improved trackpad and keyboard. The new Surface Book laptop will be available from May 21 and will retail for $1,599 and above.
Surface Headphones 2 and Surface Earbuds
Over the ear headphones, the new Surface Headphones 2 are designed to block surrounding noises by including 13 levels of ambient noise control with redesigned ear cups that can be rotated to 180 degrees for comfortable wearability. Using on ear dials, active noise cancellation can be adjusted either by reducing or amplifying human voices. With a better battery, the headphones will provide up to 20 hours of play time with improved sound quality. Offered in platinum color with a black finish, the new Headphones 2 will be available from May 12 for $249.
The Surface Earbuds are a multipurpose device, designed for all day wear with a comfortable fit. Users can listen to songs with an Omnisonic sound and use intuitive touch controls to play music, make calls and do more, without touching their phones.
- With a triple tap on any of the ear buds, users can play Spotify music on their Android smartphones.
- Screen-free integration with Microsoft 365 allows iOS users to listen to their emails or dictate content for Word, Outlook or Powerpoint documents.
Customers will be able to purchase Surface Earbuds from May 12, starting from $199.
Surface Dock 2 and PC accessories
Sold for $259, users can purchase Surface Dock 2 to attach additional hardware to their PC. The new Dock 2 provides enterprise management tools with faster charging and high data transfer rate. The company has also released a new $99.99 multi-port Microsoft USB-C Travel hub for people on the go, as a medium to connect to USB-C accessories, networks and displays. Both connecting devices are available in select markets with shipments scheduled for end of May.
Last, but not the least, Microsoft has also released new PC accessories bundles designed to enhance work experience.
- The Microsoft Ergonomic Desktop with split keyboard is now available for $89.99.
- The Microsoft Bluetooth Desktop with a stylish mouse is now available for $59.99.
The devices will be available for purchase in all market in subsequent months. In the later half of this year, Microsoft will also launch Surface in Mexico and South Africa.
