The official MLB app for iOS is updated to version 16.0.0 which features support for Live Activities, a new onboarding experience, 2023 team schedules, and more.
iOS 16 brought a whole new Lock Screen experience to iPhone users. For the first time, it allowed users to customize the color and text of the clock and date, add widgets, and set wallpapers with depth effects.
More interestingly, iOS 16 also introduced Live Activities on iPhone Lock Screen for users to get live updates in real-time from compatible apps to track their food delivery, ride, or sports events at glance and without opening the apps. The Dynamic Island on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max took the Live Activities to users’ Home Screen.
MLB app now shows updated game scores in real-time in iOS Live Activities
In iOS 16.1 update, Apple expanded Live Activities API support for third-party apps in October 2022. Almost after five months, the MLB app for iOS now brings Live Activities support to users with compatible devices.
After updating the app, iPhone users can start a Live Activity session for the MLB app when a game is on to receive updated scores in-real time directly on their Lock Screen. Only iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max users can view the MLB app’s Live Activities on their Lock Screen and Home Screen via Dynamic Island.
Users can also enable more frequent updates option for Live Activities which was introduced in iOS 16.2. However, that feature will drain the battery faster.
The new MLB app also features a new onboarding experience, refreshed standings page, a Watch tab with 24/7 programming available, and more.

MLB app is available for download on App Store with in-app subscription plans to access full features. It is compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Silicon Mac, and Apple TV.
