Netflix Basic with Ads plan is now available on tvOS so users video stream content on Apple TV set-top box.
To expand its subscription base, Netflix launched the affordable ad-supported plan in November 2022 costing $6.99 per month. The new Netflix Basic with Ads is $3 cheaper than the Basic, $9 cheaper than Standard, and $13 cheaper than Premium plans with no ads. Approximately four to five ads are played per hour while streaming content on Netflix Basic with Ads which range from 15 to 30 seconds.
The cheaper plan is only available in select regions: Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Netflix Basic with Ads plan is added on its app for tvOS
Apple TV is a digital media player and micro-console which runs on tvOS. Developers can release their apps on the set-top box like audio and video streaming, gaming, sports, news, and other apps.
At the time of launch, the company said that Netflix Basic with Ads was not available in its app for Apple TV or tvOS, and limited access to only higher-tier plans, but support was coming months.
After months since launch, Redditor @websgeisti spotted that the Basic with Ads plan is available on the latest 2.3.0 version of the Netflix app on Apple TV and ads run in the default Netflix player, not in the tvOS internal player.
In February this year, Netflix reduced its subscription prices by half in more than 30 countries in Asia, the Middle East, sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and Latin America regions presumably to gain new subscribers in the aforementioned markets and increase its revenue base.
